NASCAR changes competition personnel structure for 2013 season ? NASCAR news
The sanctioning body for stock car racing, NASCAR, has made several changes in the competition personnel structure for the racing series in 2013.
On Tuesday, NASCAR vice president of competition, Robin Pemberton, announcing the changes made by NASCAR to its competition personnel structure said, ?We recently completed a thorough, strategic review of all our racing series and believe the changes we're announcing will strengthen our overall racing and offer us the best opportunity for growth.?
Joe Balash, the Nationwide Series Director since 2004 has been given the new role of International Competition Liaison. Balash, in his new role, will work as NASCAR?s focal point of information concerning competition related matters of the Toyota (Mexico) Series, Canadian Tire Series, the Euro Racecar, Touring Series and all such competitions or series where NASCAR is already involved or is planning to get involved.
Talking about Balash?s promotion, Robin Pemberton said, ?Joe is terrific at building relationships with track operators, sponsors and other stakeholders, and he will be an excellent fit in his new role.? Balash will report to the newly promoted Competition GRAND-AM and Managing Director, Touring Series, Richard Buck.
Director Camping World Truck Series, Wayne Auton, has been promoted to Nationwide Series Director. Chad Little who is currently the director of Whelen Modified Tour Series and director of racing development, Mexico, gets promotion to Camping World Truck Series director. Both Auton and Little will report to Managing Director of Sprint Cup Series, John Darby.
Canadian Tire Series director, Brad Moran, in his new role, will serve as director of Touring Series, NASCAR from 2013. He too will be reporting to Richard Buck.
Commenting on the promotion of Auton, Little and Moran, Pemberton said, ?I'm also pleased our system allowed us to promote our talent up the ranks, as is the case with Wayne, Chad and Brad. This shows that we have a great deal of depth in our series director leadership roles, and these moves reflect that depth.?
George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president regional and touring, seemed hopeful that the changes made by NASCAR will help it expand its reach outside the United States and promote stock racing globally.
