AT&T to offer larger data plans for businesses

AT&T is rolling out new, large data plans aimed at businesses. The new plans start at $300 per month for 30GB of data, with 40GB going for $400 per month, and 50GB for $500. Devices like feature phones, laptops, and tablets can all be added to these plans as well. These new plans, under the Mobile Share umbrella, also come with unlimited talk and text, as well as tethering for smartphones. AT&T says:

The new plans are ideal for businesses, as well as consumers who need more data, and build on AT&T?s existing Mobile Share plans with expanded options of 30 GB, 40 GB and 50 GB, including unlimited calls and texts. In addition, AT&T is offering new Mobile Share ? Data plans for businesses and consumers and new Business Pooled Nation for Data plans for business customers.

Each plan is also limited by the number of devices it can add to these plans. For the 30GB plan, a business can add 15 devices, while 40GB and 50GB can ad 20 and 25 devices, respectively. Businesses that need to add more devices can use the AT&T Business Pooled Nation for Data plans, which have options ranging from 300MB to 10GB per month. Finally, AT&T is adding data-only plans for consumers and businesses, starting at $30 per month for 4GB, going to $335 for 50GB. Each of these plans will be available beginning this Friday, March 22.

Swype beta 1.4.9 now available, brings bug fixes, new languages, and more responsive tapping

There are plenty of great choices when it comes to a keyboard for your Android device, and Swype has long been a crowd favorite. Today's new beta update should please everyone who uses the original swiping keyboard, as the change log is chock full of improvements and fixes:

• Advanced Language Models added for Hindi and Belgian Dutch
• Responsiveness for tap input improved for all languages
• Improved overall Smart Editor behavior and implemented some bug fixes
• Fixed a Gingerbread crash that occurred when rotating device into landscape mode
• Fixed miscellaneous crashes reported by the Beta community
• Fixed an issue where default Android voice input ('mic'/'microphone') icon displayed instead of Dragon logo
• Changed subtype text in notification drawer to be more accurate
• Word Choice List behavior improved in Polaris Office
• And many more bug fixes and improvements!

New language models are always welcome, and small fixes like errant microphone icons are nice, but crashes and bugs getting fixed and a more responsive input method is great news. 

Since Swype isn't in Google Play you'll need to manually install it from the link below to give it a try. If you're already using Swype, you should see an OTA in the next 72 hours if you don't want to manually update the app.

Bipartisan Senate Plan Would Let Illegal Immigrants Earn ...

Illustration by Terry Colon for ReasonIf you've come to the U.S. illegally, you'll have to wait a decade to earn legal status and 13 years to become a naturalized citizen under a bipartisan immigration reform plan now being drawn up in the Senate, reports The Washington Post.?

The 10-year wait for a green card for illegal immigrants would help ensure that the existing backlog of more than 4 million people who have applied for visas through legal measures would be processed first.

Democrats have pushed for a faster timeline, arguing that long waits could discourage immigrants from applying and maintain a second-class tier of U.S. residents not fully empowered to participate in society and the workforce. Republicans have argued that it is unfair to grant citizenship to undocumented residents more quickly than to those who have applied legally.

The Post's report files this bit into the Republicans-and-Democrats-disagree-on-the-details part of the article, but it highlights an under-discussed fact: how long and arduous the existing legal immigration process is. (You can get a pretty good sense of how insane the process is from the flow chart in our October 2008 issue.) But apparently the Senate's idea of a solution is to add yet another lengthy, arduous process on top of the old system. Creating a path to citizenship for 11 million people who do not currently have one is worth doing, but it would be nice if, in the midst of all the discussion about immigration reform, we actually talked a little bit about reforming the mess that is our existing immigration system.

The Google Reader Filter Userscript Lets You Sort and Save Your Starred Articles

Firefox/Chrome: If you're a heavy Google Reader user, you may have dozens of articles starred and feeds organized into folders or categories. This simple userscript lets you filter all of those feeds by folder, whether the article is starred, by keyword, or even by author or blog so you can quickly bookmark them or save them elsewhere.

The script works in Firefox and Chrome, and once you have the userscript installed (if you're new to userscripts and styles, we have a guide to help), you'll see a new text box at the top of Google Reader that you can use to filter by keyword, article title, article author (only works in expanded view,) starred items, and more. You can even reverse the filter, so you can search for things you specifically want to exclude instead of include in the results. Once you have what you want?like all of your starred items, for example?you can open them individually and bookmark them, share them with yourself, or use another tool to export the articles you want to keep.

Obviously this tool isn't going to help you with new articles from your favorite blogs, or if you have thousands of starred items you want to save, but if you're less worried about what you're going to do when Google Reader shuts down as you're irritated that your Takeout exports are missing starred items or are otherwise incomplete, the Google Reader Filter userscript can help.
